This email message assignment is based on a scenario that establishes a writing situation. Please read the following scenario, then review the assignment requirements before beginning to write.
You are the internship supervisor for Telus. Lately, you have received inquiries for paid internship positions from NYIT students. These students are qualified for internet security and business management, and they seem to have the right skills for the jobs. You need 5 interns, but you can only offer them unpaid positions with a minimum of 2 full day commitment per week for the duration of the internship. Also you require a work permit and most of them stated in their inquiries that they only have a student permit. In addition, they need to provide a criminal record check and proof of successful completion of their program including a course in technical communication by January 1, 2020 (the document deadline), yet most of them will still have to complete courses in the new year. You are hiring for April 1, 2020 and the application and document deadline is January 1, 2020. You proposed the Telus general manager to allow student recruitment without a completed program or a work permit (since the job is unpaid), and you were told that you must ensure that the hired students meet the high standards of Telus, or the internship program will be terminated. As you have also graduated from NYIT, you wish to keep the internship program running and continue to help NYIT students. You are now emailing all the students who have inquired about internship to clearly outline the requirements and restrictions for the positions you are offering, making sure you are careful about the information that you are going to relay so that you maintain Telus’ confidentiality, reputation, and integrity.
Write an informative email to all students detailing the internship program and application process.
