Vertov’s Man with a Camera

Identify two interesting camera shots in Vertov’s Man with a Camera. Screen shot these and put them into your journal. Then analyze these shots by examining the effect they have on the viewer’s perception of the subject filmed.

In nearly every week of this course, you will write journal entries about the films and film techniques we are studying. Each of your journal entries should include at least two screen shots from the film (or films) you are analyzing, along with your observations about and analysis of the captured scenes. Please keep these guidelines in mind as you create your journal entries:

Start each journal entry with your screen shots. I need to see the scenes you are referencing in your writing
For each scene, write at least one paragraph (100-125 words) that does each of the following: 1) captures your personal response to the scene, 2) describes your observations about the scene, and 3) provides your analysis of the scene. I will be looking for close analysis of film technique, as well as your personal response to the scenes
Make sure that your journal entries refer to elements of mise en scène and cinematography. Apply technical film terms in your observations and analysis
