Introduction
Sepang International Circuit was designed by a German designer called Hermann Tike. It was located at Sepang, close to the KLIA, with its modern and state of the art facilities, it was given the honour to embody the F1 logo in its name.
Early HistoryIt was officially inaugurated by the famous 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia which was Tun Dr. Mahathir on 7th March 1999.
He also subsequently went on to inaugurate the first Moto GP Malaysian Grand Prix a month later on 20th April 1999.
Tun Dr. Mahathir also inaugurated the first Formula One Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix a few months later on 17th October 1999.
On 23th October 2011, during the 2nd lap of the MotoGP Shell Advance Malaysian Grand Prix, an Italian motorcycle racer called Marco Simoncelli died following a crash in turn 11 thus resulting an abandonment of the race.
36195097247800309562598806000In October 2016, it was mooted that Sepang International Circuit may be dropped from Formula One series due to dwindling ticket sales and thus it held its nineteenth and last World Championship Grand Prix in 2017.
Facilities
Sepang International Circuit offers a variety of facilities for its users. For example,
The Welcome Centre at Sepang International Circuit features a caf? that can sit up to 250 people, a 15th countered ticketing station, a Customer Service centre, Washroom for all, car pack, a covered area and open-air area. The Welcome Centre is also ideal for Concerts, Teambuilding activities, Mini Carnivals and Open-air dinners.
The Perdana Suites boasts a majestic view of the track and its the most exclusive of the facilities. It is usually reserved for Royal & VVIP Guest, it is located on the 2nd Floor of the Pit Building and can accommodate up to 250 people. It is fully carpeted and has it owns pantry, a washroom, a surau and also extends to the rooftop. It is ideal for small receptions, private parties, small meetings, and private screenings of art/fashion/jewellery, rooftop events and press conferences.
The Paddock Club is a fully air-conditioned hall located on the upper entrance of the main pit building and offers a spectacular view of the F1 track. During F1 races, this area is favourite among fans alike. The hall can each be transformed into ballroom or a convention area and is an ultimate choice for large events and etc. The side walls are fully glass, giving it a modern look and feel to the place. The lower entrance to the Paddock Club also serve as a drop-off for its users and is ideal for cocktail sessions, conferences, exhibitions/showcase, wedding receptions, annual dinners, large corporate galas, trade shows, non-profit fundraisers, fashion shows, launchings.
Sepang International Circuit also includes a Helipad that is located right beside the Kuala Lumpur International Airport runway. It offers a magnificent view on a hill which you would not get anywhere else in Malaysia. Its perimeter is fully fenced to assure your privacy. It is ideal for concerts, outdoor events, open air-dinners/galas, teambuilding activities and carnivals.
Another unique option for an event is their Corporate Suites. Each suite is equipped with a sofa set, 2 restrooms, 4 television, a counter top and a pantry area, As a Suite Holder for a day/night, you can entertain your closest relatives, friends and/or corporate partners with a pre-event before leading them upstairs to the Corporate Platform for a night of party under the stars. It is ideal for private parties, private gatherings, children birthday parties, small AGM meetings and karaoke sessions.
Sepang International Circuit includes a mall that encompasses 10 stalls, or mini booths that are completed with kitchen counters and storage areas. The iconic Hibiscus Tower of Sepang International Circuit is also situated here, making it a creative choice for you event. Its very ideal large carnivals, trade shows, concerts and open-air dinners.
The Centre also provides a media centre as an outstanding option for conferences and a corporate presentations. The centre is surrounded by glass walls and even has a Press Conference room attached to it as well as having seats and a mini stage ready to use anytime. It is also arguably the ONLY such centre in Malaysia to boasts 340 seats and each equipped with its own table, televisions, power option and internet cable for access to the Internet. It is very ideal for conferences, corporate presentations, symposiums, product demonstrations, launchings and examinations.
The Rooftop of SIC adds an ambience to an event as well as a relaxed feel which one does not often get when attending indoor events. It offers an amazing view of the F1 Track on one side and Paddock Area on the other. Its very ideal for small receptions, private parties, small meetings, and private screenings of art/fashion/jewellery, rooftop events and press conferences.
Achievements
Sepang International Circuit (S.I.C) has ushered in 2018 on a high note with the announcement of its talent Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah racing in the prestigious MotoGP world championship.
Sepang International Circuit was voted the worlds most challenging track on the Grand Prix Calendar by F1 drivers in 1999. The Sepang International Circuit is a proud achievement by AZ-M&R-WCT JV (A joint venture between Ahmad Zaki Sdn.)
Sepang International Circuit also achieved 2 lap records as followed: During the event of 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel drove a Ferrari SF70H and achieved a lap time of 1:34.080 under the Formula One Category.
During the event of 2015 Malaysian motorcycle Grand Prix, Jorge Lorenzo drove a Yamaha YZR-M1 and achieved a lap time of 2:00.606 under the MotoGP Category.
Conclusion
Even though motorsport has its own niche market, SIC has done a good marketing plan and strategy by targeting the right customers and sponsors. They have maintain a good relationship to sustain mutual benefits for both parties.
Sepang International Circuit is one place every person must visit when on tour in Malaysia as this place offers very good accommodation since its a lovely place with great services to offer. However, year 2017 marks the end of its journey with Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix, celebrating 19 years of F1 in Malaysia. It was a bitter-sweet moment for all motorsports enthusiast. With endings, there will always be new beginnings! The track is in a long term plan of transformation into an integrated, multi-faceted motorsports hub over the next five years or so.
SIC has significant contributions and undying support towards Malaysian motorsports industry. Inspiring Malaysians to make a mark in the motorsports world in both locally and internationally and bring Malaysia to a higher degree of capacity and capability.
The iconic Sepang International Circuit can well lay claim to setting the template that all modern Grand Prix circuits have followed in the 21st century. It is one of Malaysias pride and joy and it has become the icon for Formula One (F1). As the brainchild of then Prime Minister Tun Dr.Mahathir, the circuit formed a central part of plants to transform Malaysia into an industrialised nation.
