Public Policy

Select a public policy area of your choice.  Research the area to identify important, current issues. Address these three questions:

What should be the role of government in the policy area? Why/Why Not?
What should be the appropriate roles among the three levels of government in this policy area: federal, state, and local?
Within one of these three levels – federal, state, local – what should be the appropriate roles of the executive v. the legislative branches of that level of government.
Examples of public policies areas for consideration include the following:  healthcare, immigration, anti-terrorism, drug enforcement, housing, mental healthcare, law enforcement, environmental protection, education, income security, food security, climate change, zoning and land use, economic development, fire protection, law enforcement, water/sewer provision, banking regulation, parks, culture, education, etc.

Build an answer based on a combination of the assigned readings to date, and your independent research.

Length: 600 to 750 words
