The assignment is to write a CONCEPTUAL ESSAY exploring a metaphor for the concept of education. The metaphor I wish to use is: Education is the key to success. So basically we are defining education as the key to success. Since it is a concept essay it requires careful exploration of the concept of education, a concise and interesting thesis, and a strong overall structure.
1)Introduction: must include the thesis statement: Education is the key to success. It should also show why education matters in real life and how the essay will explore the connection between education and the metaphor(key to success); this connection must be clearly articulated. Make use of an anecdote consisting of a personal human experience/world event explaining how education is the key to success in this instance so basically it will be a narrative introduction.
2)Body: Develop body paragraphs that explore important aspects of the concept. Use a strong topic sentence to indicate the purpose of each body paragraph, and connect all the body paragraphs to expand the definition of the concept of education. Each paragraph needs to support the thesis statement meaning the connection between education and success must be clearly articulated. So basically each paragraph conveys one main point. The main point is stated in the topic sentence of the paragraph. The rest of the paragraph should support the topic sentence, and all paragraphs should support the overall thesis.
-1st main point/body paragraph needs to explain how education is the key to success in a career.
-2nd main point/body paragraph needs to explain how education is the key to financial success.
-3rd main point/body paragraph needs to explain how education is the key to personal success.
3)Conclusion: It must re-establish the definition of the concept of education through the metaphor of it being the key to success in aspects of career, financial, and personal. Show how this definition of the concept of education can help readers understand the concept in their lives. It must demonstrate that you have thought deeply about the concept of education. Though the conclusion must summarize the main points of the essay, it must be worded in a new way so the essay does not seem repetitive.
