The one-page proposal is where you propose your claim, grounds, and warrants on the issue you have chosen to argue. You should include the following:

    1. the issue you will be arguing and briefly how it connects to When the English Fall

    3. your reasons (grounds),
    4. how you plan to prove your claim and grounds (warrants and backing)
    5. what objections will you acknowledge and counter-argue? Why?

Also, include in this proposal where you plan to find scholarly sources, and tell me about the types of scholarly sources you already have found and those you plan to find. If you feel like the issue may not be supported by current sources or if you think you will need to use some old sources (older than five years), please let me know that too with an explanation of why. No more than two sources should be older than five years. Remember to include a variety of mediums, including print sources.

You can include at the end of your proposal any concerns you have about the issue; for example, if you feel your topic is too broad or too narrow, share those thoughts with me. If you think you will need to include some explanation or background on the issue before proving your position, discuss how you might accomplish this and still maintain the argument.

If you don’t know which opposition point(s) to include and refute in your argument, discuss the possibilities here too. If you need to focus on the issue or argue to a position with qualifications, be sure to explain what those qualifications are and include any concerns you have about how you will explain the parameters of your issue.

Write about any concerns you might have about the research process itself, the writing, or the argument in general. If you are wavering between two sides of an issue, consider writing a separate proposal for each position.
