First, lets take a look back at when marriage was established and how majority of America traditionally views it. From the book of Genesis to much of the New Testament books in the bible, marriage was designed by God that involves both sexes meaning male and female. It also talks that man has to leave his father and mother to cling to his wife (one flesh), as she is to be his companion and helper. Many people today, whether religious or not, still follow these ordinances that God put in place.
Marriage is between male and female, not any other way. In the article Modern Family and Gay Marriage: Its complicated by Alyssa Rosenberg, the traditional meaning of marriage, family and couple is completely destroyed. Since Mitch and Cam adopted a cute little girl, their parenting is questioned whether a gay family could afford the appropriate care to that child as an opposite sex couple. There has been wide speculation into sexual orientation and whether it has an impact on homosexuals and their abilities to be good parents.
For example in the article, in an episode earlier this season, a nasty fight between Mitch’s nieces Haley Dunphy and Alex Dunphy reached a touchy note when Haley suggested that Alex was a lesbian (Rosenberg 4). This evidence show clearly how the adoptive child sexual orientation is questioned or put in jeopardy since she has gay parent.
Also, homosexuality has been a sensitive subject in society for a long time, and in recent years, it has sparked both support and controversy in areas such as legalizing gay and lesbian marriage and various other matters that have arisen surrounding the movement towards equality of treatment and integration into society. One of these matters that has garnered attention is gay parenting. In the Modern family, Mitch and Cam were rarely seen given much attention to each other and to their child
There are a variety of important public issues being discussed publicly today, same sex marriage seems to be one of the most trending of them all. Part of this is due largely to fact that a vast majority of minorities in the United States are dealing with it today. This issue, however, sheds light on a few areas, primarily ethically, family values, morals, religious views and beliefs. What we need to consider is what same sex marriage consists of, the challenges and living as such, and finally the effects it has brought upon the government and lawmakers. There is obviously a rising conflict regarding this lifestyle, and if we do not pursue in fighting for the right, this country will continue to fall.
