Embalming

In the lecture, I mentioned that a 20 index fluid from one company may give you a completely different result than a 20 index fluid from another. Discuss some of the additives to the chemicals that would explain this, and tell me why they might be added to the chemical.

This the first person The idea that one a 20 index fluid from one company could be completely different than a 20 index from another is the same with any chemical company. There are different companies that produce embalming fluid and the reason behind that one 20 indexes could be completely different from another company’s 20 indexes are the additives. These additives include humectants, surfactants, penetrating agents and buffers. With the use of these additives, it allows for further penetration into the tissues, more distribution and better preservation. The modifying agents that are added to the fluid could be needed to reduce surface tension or to control moisture. Choosing between the two companies with the same index all depends on what results in you are looking for or need

Second person Companies that manufacture arterial fluid can be different even though the same index of the fluid is being used because of the wide variety of the modifying agents and that may be included in the fluids of the opposing companies.  Buffers agents could be added to control the acid-base balance of the fluid and tissues.  Humectants agents could be added in the fluid to control the tissue moisture balance.  Anticoagulants which are water conditioning agents are added in some cases and Surfactants which are wetting agents, surface tension reducers, penetration agents or surface-active agents. Also, dyes and colouring agents may also be part of the arterial fluid for the purposes of producing an internal cosmetic effect that closely simulates the natural colouring of tissues.

Third-person There is different companies who produce different types of embalming fluid. A 20 index bottle from one establishment may be completely different from a 20 index bottle from a different one. The reason for this is because of the additives or lack thereof in said embalming fluids. There could be different types of vehicles, surfactants, humectants, and such which will create different results. Some bodies need more moisture within the fluid and some need more that will work with surface tension or both. The different bottles will contain these additives in order for better penetration of tissues and distribution therein. Depending on the case, whether it is a “normal” one or one with disease and pathogens, we will select whichever one will establish better results.
