Christmas Morning
Eyes opening to the aroma of yummy hot pancakes that are all covered in hot, sticky maple syrup and slathered in butter, just waiting to be devoured! As the sun begins to slowly brighten up the dull sky, the sky becomes pink like a sea of cotton candy, with the light of the sun coloring the clouds above with an orangish hue. As the sky begins to lighten up, the wide open window allows the yellow rays of the sun to enter the room.
A gush of cold wind flows inside, causing a chill feeling to rush through. Body is finally awakening, as it rolls out of the comfy, soft comforter to escape the warm bed. It takes the cogs in the brain awhile to process that it is the morning of the most wonderful time of the year. Completely slipping the thought of the big feast that occurred last night as a pre-celebration. All the food that was laid out on the dinner table like a buffet, dishes filled with food one after the other.
The house filled with talking and laughter coming from the aunts and uncles to the children running around chasing each other. Such a difference in the morning considering that more than half of the family members are still fast asleep, completely exhausted from last night. Finally leaving the room, I start to head down the what it seemed like a never ending staircase to check out what is laid out for breakfast. Descending down the stairs, the house is beautifully decorated with bright red poinsettias that perfectly matches with the green of the leaves. As for the significantly important tree, it is usually six to seven feet tall covered in different ornaments that have been collected over the years and have become real family treasures. Christmas decorations can evoke strong feelings of childhood and traditions. Reaching the bottom of the staircase, familiar melodies are playing throughout the household bringing that feeling of nostalgia. The moms and aunts are in the kitchen preparing breakfast for the entire family, fluffy golden brown pancakes and rich hot chocolate topped with whipped cream for the young ones and freshly brewed mugs of coffee for the adults. During this preparation, more family members come down one by one as they have just awaken from their deep sleep. The little kids are starting to become more impatient and jittery since they cant wait any longer to open their presents. After devouring the stomach filling breakfast, it is finally time for the long awaited gift opening.
