Acceptance of Others The Acceptance of Others Recently, our school adopted the OLWEAS bulling training program. Every other Tuesday we meet with a select group of students and a teacher and talk about different instances and about ourselves. During the trainings that I have endured it has made me think about my actions towards other people and how these actions or words are portrayed. One instance was Judging people before you know them personally.
As soon as you look at a person most people make a general note based on the way they look, how they dress, and the way they carry themselves.
These are hree things that I generally note when I meet a person. Most of these first impressions are changed at the time that you speak to them on a more personal level. I invited a friend to accompany myself and three others on a Journey to a nearby town to attend a haunted house; I pressured this person several times to Join us after he had repeatedly said no.
I later found out that this person has a severe social anxiety disorder which prohibits them from engaging in activities on the spot. Generally this person needs time to prepare themselves before putting themselves out there with other people. Another Instance happened shortly after the previous one, the football team had Just finished a game and I entered the school building to return the film camera when I came upon a student sitting on a bench. I asked why he was still at the school and he replied that he was Just waiting for his brother.
We made small talk until he revealed a shocking piece of Information. He had been taking depression medicine for several months due to his home life. This literally broke my heart In two, this student was my friend and yet I knew so little about him. Being accepting of others Is extremely Important; these two students are friends of ine and within the last month I found out two things I had no Idea about and judging people on the way they look or how they dress Is something we all need to work on.
Get to know others before Judging them and making an automatic first Impression. We all need to work on making everyone feel welcome and deserving of being alive. Each human being was put on Earth for a specific reason and helping those who generally don’t Involve themselves with others Join In on different actlvltles could help all people gain an acceptance of everyone. A tolerance of others comes along with making others feel welcome. Generally there are people that some particularly don’t Ilke but to make everyone feel welcome Is essential.
